Malaria in Sierra Leone remains a significant public health concern and is listed among the top 10 causes of outpatient visits in the country. Currently malaria accounts for xx percent of all our outpatient visits in public health facilities.
The most vulnerable populations are children below the age of five years and expectant women. The vision of the National Malaria Control Programme is to accelerate the implementation of Malaria Control Interventions towards a Malaria-free Sierra Leone. And the goal is to ensure by the end of 2025, contribute significantly to the improvement of the well-being of the population by reducing the malaria burden.

If traveling to a malaria-endemic area, consult a healthcare professional for advice on antimalarial medications.
In some regions, a malaria vaccine may be available. Consult with healthcare professionals to see if vaccination is recommended for you.
Use insect repellent containing DEET (N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide), picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus on exposed skin.
Reduce mosquito breeding sites by emptying standing water from containers, cleaning gutters, and using larvicides in water storage containers if necessary.
